Like most Singaporeans, I've "inherited" (taking over the responsibility of paying premiums once we start working) numerous participating whole life and endowment policies which were purchased decades ago by our parents.
I thought it would be a good to start keeping track of the major life insurer's participating fund performance as the information can be quite difficult to locate on each company's corporate website.
Key takeaway from the various insurer's Participating fund updates are:
- Strong performance across most asset classes in 2019 reversing the losses in 2018
- Economic impact from COVID-19 would likely lead to lower Participating fund returns in 2020
